Two Questions I Ask Myself to Set Myself for a Successful Day

I have been journaling semi-consistently for almost a year, but setting expectations for the day is one of the things that I found most useful across my experiments.

Every morning I try to set two intentions, a professional and a personal one. Setting a clear and attainable goal for the day gives me a finish line and a way to feel successful.

Unfortunately, this is not as common as it seems.

Spending even a few minutes writing about the day ahead in the morning seems like a waste of time.

When we wake up in the morning, we feel like we are on automatic and don’t have time for some silence and quiet.

Some of the most productive days I had in the last year were when I took the time to sit down and write to clear my mind before getting started with a big day.

Here there are two things I ask myself. Remember to set goals that are within your control.

Prompt 1: What is the project I am focusing on today?

Picking on a project to focus on reduces the chances of getting distracted by other things.

Working on one single project a day is hard at times but is the most stable way to work I had in the last year.

Prompt 2: What I will do to make today great?

While this might sometimes refer to work, I often think of some things that might involve my friends or my hobbies.

By having a non-work related objective, I make sure to consider my personal life as a way to feel successful at the end of the day.

I can give myself some slack on either front by having work-related and personal-oriented goals. Sometimes I fail to fulfil one or the other. Still, by reviewing my progress, I can ensure I am not solely working on one aspect of my life.
